Tom Thomson’s Wake – An Original Folk Musical

Two years after renowned painter Tom Thomson’s mysterious death, his friend, his mentor and his lover gather to share their memories of Algonquin Park’s most famous resident. But did any of them really know the man? Through their diverging songs and stories, a new portrait of the iconic Canadian artist emerges.

Featuring high-definition imagery of Tom Thomson and Group of 7 artworks, unforgettable characters and an original folk music score by Shipyard Kitchen Party (creators of the musical 100 Years From Now), this new Canadian musical is sure to engage and entertain audiences of all ages.



The Cast


Shipyard Kitchen Party
Formed in 2017, while working in the Collingwood Improv Artists Comedy Troupe. Sacha Law, Jason Murphy and John Eaton united in a vision of a band with an Americana heart and East Coast soul. Shipyard Kitchen Party combines strong storytelling, vocal harmony and love of entertaining into a fresh take on the singer-songwriter genre.


They’re Gordon Lightfoot having a dram too many with Great Big Sea; Stan Rogers crossed with “Who’s Line it Anyway.” With traditional instrumentation, catchy pop hooks and sly humour, they get audiences stomping their feet, laughing and sometimes even shedding a tear.


Their Live in Collingwood album was released in 2019. In 2020, they released the single Tom Thomson’s Ghost and May of this year they released the song and video Hole in the Sun, with two more singles this summer from their forthcoming debut studio album. Tom Thomson’s Wake: The Album was Recorded at Villa Sound Studios with producer Adam Fair set for release in September 2022.

Craig Ashton
(Actor/opera singer/producer) in the role of iconic Canadian painter A.Y Jackson.
Craig has performed leading roles with the Canadian Opera Company, Toronto Opera in Concert, Toronto Operetta Theatre, The Banff Festival, Edmonton Opera and Vancouver Opera, to name a few. In musical theatre his greatest triumphs are The Gondoliers at the Stratford Festival, and Hal Prince’s The Phantom of the Opera and Show Boat. He was also a member of the original Canadian Tenors.


Dean Hollin
(Actor/director) in the role of woodsman and trapper Larry Dixon.
Dean has spent over two decades performing in numerous theatres throughout Ontario, including the roles of Billy Flynn in the musical Chicago (Drayton Entertainment), Young Whit in Of Mice and Men (Theatre Aquarius), and the title role in tour de force production, Billy Bishop Goes to War.


Julie LeBlanc
(Actor/director/TV host) plays the role of Tom Thomson’s love interest Winnie Trainor.
Julie is the founding director of Collingwood Improv Artists and former host of Rogers’ TV’s Daytime.


Victoria Yeh
(Violinist/ educator)
A musical chameleon, Victoria has recorded on countless film, television and music projects in genres ranging from atmospheric avant-garde to hip-hop and electronica; folk and fiddle to ethno-world and rock. She also recently composed and recorded an original score for a soon to be released documentary on the Canadian Boreal forest.


Jason Redman
Mmulti-instrumentalist/singer songwriter/educator)
Jason is a veteran performer and recording artist with a tremendous catalogue of independent album releases. Jason brings a wealth of musical knowledge and proficiency to the stage.
