Event Description
Street vs. Stage

Original production conceived by MichaelDouglas Kollektiv (Cologne); Original production produced by ZAIK Zentre für Austausch und Innovation Köln and KATALYST FESTIVAL (Cologne); Adaptation by Tina Fushell, Molly Johnson, Emily Law, and Sabina Perry; Produced by Tina Fushell, Molly Johnson, Emily Law, and Sabina Perry; Hosted by Regina of Light Fires and DJ p ô ñ ÿ

Inspired by a project first imagined and brought to life by the MichaelDouglas Kollektiv and ZAIK Zentre für Austausch und Innovation Köln in Cologne, Germany, Street vs Stage takes the idea of a traditional street dance battle and spins it on its head. In a theatrical setting, ten of Toronto's hype contemporary dancers meet ten of the city's skilled street dancers and use the structure of a battle as a guise to get down. An MC - infamous musician/drag diva Regina of Light Fires - keeps the banter going and the night flowing, while DJ p ô ñ ÿ keeps time and sets the vibe. Directed by Toronto dance mavens Tina Fushell, Molly Johnson, Emily Law and original performer/conceiver Sabina Perry, this is a multi-disciplinary dance party that blurs the lines between two undefinable art forms. An event for everyone, Street vs Stage has no winners, no losers, just gritty moves and big love on the dance floor. (Thunderous applause and rooting for favourites is highly encouraged).
